Sulbutiamine is a fat-soluble synthetic molecule created by binding together two Thiamin (B1) molecules with a sulfur group. Japanese researchers discovered Sulbutiamine while attempting to improve upon thiamin by making it more easily absorbed by the body.
Sulbutiamine can help to combat fatigue, especially when it is fatigue caused by the mind rather than fatigue that is neuromuscular in origin. Additionally, one study performed on rats found that sulbutiamine improved memory, especially in relation to the ability to recognize objects. Another rat study found that chronic administration of sulbutiamine resulted in improvements in long-term memory formation. Sulbutiamine may also be helpful as an immune booster.
Sulbutiamine may help to facilitate wakefulness as well. A study performed on rhesus monkeys found that 300mg of sulbutiamine over 10 days enhanced waking and light sleep.
Sulbutiamine Side Effects
There are no known side effects associated with sulbutiamine supplementation.
The recommended dosage is 200mg, taken one to three times per day. Since sulbutiamine is fat-soluble, individuals should take it with a meal.
